Hot-hitting Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager is considered day to day after leaving Friday night’s 7-2 victory over the Giants in the top of the third inning with lower back discomfort.
Manager Dave Roberts said Seager probably would not play Saturday after suffering the injury diving to his backhand side trying to flag down Chadwick Tromp’s second-inning single to left. Seager remained in the game, but was slow backing up a ground ball in the third inning and left the game.
“Right now, we’re just getting tests on it and right now he’s in the day-to-day category, so hopefully tomorrow he starts to feel better and we’ll know more,” Roberts said after Friday's game.
Seager has a history of injuries, including a lower back sprain suffered sliding into second base during the 2017 National League Division Series that kept him out of the 2017 NL Championship Series against the Cubs. He returned for the World Series, batting .222 against Houston.
Seager, who was bothered by a calf and quad muscle last week, flied out in his only at-bat in the first inning against the Giants. He was replaced at shortstop by Chris Taylor, with Kiké Hernández taking over at second base.
Seager entered the game batting .347 with three home runs and seven RBIs, having hit safely in eight straight games.
