Seager day to day with hamstring tightness

SAN DIEGO -- Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager left Wednesday night’s 6-4 win over the Padres in the fourth inning with left hamstring tightness, but manager Dave Roberts said he was confident Seager would be ready to play in San Francisco on Friday night.

Seager doubled in a run in the first inning of the game and was retired on a fly ball to right field in the top of the fourth inning. Enrique Hernández replaced him at shortstop for the bottom of the fourth.

“Corey had a little left hamstring tightness,” said Roberts. “He’s had a history of it. Nothing alarming, but we wanted to get ahead of it. Get him out of the game. He’ll be down tomorrow and back in there Friday.”

Seager was out from June 13-July 10 with a left hamstring strain. Roberts said Seager felt the tightness on the double but was allowed to stay in for the fourth inning at-bat. Roberts said if Seager had reached base, he would have been lifted for a pinch-runner.

“I appreciate the honesty for giving us a heads-up,” said Roberts. “Said he could have continued, but we wanted to be precautionary.”

The double gave Seager a 10-game hitting streak with four doubles, one triple, six homers and 22 RBIs in September. He was named National League Player of the Week for last week, when he hit .500 with seven RBIs.

Seager is coming off a 2018 season that was spent mostly on the injured list, requiring surgery to repair a torn elbow ligament and torn hip labrum.
