Topsy-turvy week leads to big changes in CBF Power Poll
LUBBOCK, Texas – It was a turbulent week in college baseball as some big names took a tumble, leading to a big shakeup in the weekly College Baseball Hall of Fame Power Poll.
Previous No. 2 Ole Miss and No. 8 Tennessee both suffered sweeps at the hands of SEC foes Vanderbilt and Missouri, respectively. That has allowed for the rest of the poll to shift upward behind No. 1 LSU (18-2), which remains in the top spot after taking an SEC series from Texas A&M.
Louisville (17-2), which quietly has put together an outstanding year so far, slides into the No. 2 spot after taking two of three from ACC foe Georgia Tech. Arkansas (17-2) slides into a tie with the Cardinals for the No. 2 spot after sweeping Auburn in SEC play, while Florida ticks up a notch to No. 4 by taking two of three in an SEC series against Alabama. Stanford (13-5) moves up two spots to No. 5 thanks to a Pac-12 sweep of Oregon State.
Rounding out the top 10 are No. 6 Wake Forest (18-3), which took two of three in ACC play from Notre Dame, No. 7 Texas Tech (18-4), which capped a 4-1 week with a series victory over Oklahoma State to start the Big 12 slate, No. 8 Virginia (17-2), which beat North Carolina State two of three in the ACC, No. 9 Miami (Fla.), which earned an ACC sweep of Virginia Tech to improve to 16-7, and No. 10 Ole Miss (13-6).
The shakeup in college baseball last week also results in four new teams entering the Power Poll this week – No. 19 South Carolina (20-1), which swept Georgia in SEC action, No. 23 West Virginia (15-2), which swept UNC-Greensboro in non-conference play, No. 23 Kentucky, which earned an SEC sweep over 2021 national champion Mississippi State, and No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast (16-4), which swept Liberty.
TCU (10-9), Auburn (13-6-1), Mississippi State (13-7), Virginia Tech (11-4) and Georgia (13-7) drop out of the poll.
