Wake Forest dethrones LSU in College Baseball Hall of Fame Power Poll
LUBBOCK, Texas – For the first time in 2023, a team other than LSU sits atop the College Baseball Hall of Fame Power Poll as Wake Forest jumps ahead of the Tigers to claim the No. 1 spot.
The Demon Deacons (39-7) earned an ACC series victory against Boston College over the weekend and garnered half of the first-place votes in this week’s poll to elevate them to the No. 1 spot. It is the first time this season, including the preseason poll, that LSU (37-9) is not No. 1 after the Tigers dropped an SEC road series at Auburn. LSU drops one spot to No. 2.
Stanford (31-13) and Miami, Fla. (34-15) each used perfect weekends to leapfrog Florida (37-12) for third and fourth, respectively. The Cardinal swept a Pac-12 series from Arizona State, while the Hurricanes were out of ACC play this week and took all three games from Presbyterian. The Gators fall to No. 5 after losing an SEC road series at Texas A&M.
Arkansas (35-12) jumps three spots to No. 6 after sweeping an SEC series against Mississippi State, while Vanderbilt (34-13) drops two spots to No. 7 after losing two of three at Alabama. The Commodores are tied for No. 7 with West Virginia (35-10), which captured two of three games at home in Big 12 play against Oklahoma. Tennessee (32-16) falls two spots to No. 9 after losing two of three games in SEC play to Georgia, and Oklahoma State (34-15) rounds out the top 10 after an out-of-conference weekend sweep of East Tennessee State.
No. 23 Louisville (28-18) had the biggest drop this week, falling seven spots after being swept in ACC action by Clemson.
One team makes its debut this week as the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts enter the poll at No. 25, knocking out previous No. 25 Cal State Fullerton, which dropped two of three games on the road at TCU in non-conference play.
