Beavers edge Volunteers, take over top spot in Hall of Fame Power Poll
LUBBOCK, Texas – The only thing better than beating your rival four times in a week’s span is finding yourself on top of the college baseball world as a result.
On the strength of a week-long sweep of Oregon, the Oregon State Beavers ascend to the No. 1 spot in the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Power Poll. The Beavers edge previous No. 1 Tennessee by just one point, despite the Volunteers garnering four of the potential six first-place votes in the poll.
Tennessee, which drops to No. 2, sees its five-week reign at the top of the poll come to an end. The Volunteers dropped their first SEC series of the season at Kentucky but still earned four first-place votes in the poll. Oklahoma State, which swept Southeast Missouri State over the weekend, leapfrogs Arkansas to take over at No. 3 while the Hogs are in at No. 4 after a hard-fought SEC series victory over No. 25 Auburn. Louisville, which split a series with Wake Forest 1-1-1, holds on to the No. 5 spot.
The rest of the top 10 is composed of No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 Miami and No. 10 LSU.
The poll includes three new teams this week, including one returning team. Florida, fresh off a sweep of defending national champion Mississippi State, check in at No. 21 while UC-Santa Barbara debuts at No. 24 and Grand Canyon at No. 25, tied with Auburn for the final spot in the poll.
