College Baseball Foundation names 2024 Pitcher of the Year semifinalists

LUBBOCK, Texas – Not only have the best teams in college baseball clearly defined their aces on the mound, but those aces are the ones leading their teams into the postseason.

The National Pitcher of the Year Award committee announced the 14 hurlers who make up the 2024 semifinalist list, which includes not only the top starters but also some of the best relievers in the game today.

“This has been an extremely competitive process of picking the best of the best this season,” said Chris Snead, co-chair of the Pitcher of the Year Award. “This list of semifinalists leaves out some exceptionally talented and successful pitchers, but it speaks to the level of pitchers who are competing to become the National Pitcher of the Year.”

The award will be presented later this year by the College Baseball Foundation.

In terms of starting pitching, Samford’s Mitchell Ross leads the pack with 11 victories on the season paired with a 2.77 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 84 strikeouts. He is followed closely by East Carolina’s Trey Yesavage, who has 10 wins and a 2.13 ERA to go with a 0.83 ERA and 132 strikeouts. Yesavage is one of three semifinalists with 100 or more strikeouts, joined by Arkansas’s Hagen Smith (136) and LSU’s Luke Holman (100).

Smith was on the Pitcher of the Year Award semifinalist list in 2023.

Nick Pinto of UC Irvine and Smith each have nine victories on the year, while Texas A&M’s Ryan Prager and Tennessee’s Nate Snead have eight each.

As far as relievers go, Duke’s Charlie Beilenson leads the list of semifinalists with 11 saves and five victories with a 2.01 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 72 strikeouts. Izaak Martinez of UC San Diego has compiled nine saves and four wins with a 1.97 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 60 strikeouts.
