MILWAUKEE -- To fill the roster void created by Dee Gordon's suspension, the Miami Marlins selected outfielder Cole Gillespie from Triple-A New Orleans on Friday.
The 31-year-old was hitting .204 with a home run and three RBIs in 55 plate appearances this season with the Zephyrs.
Gillespie is a career .253 hitter over parts of five Major League seasons with the D-backs, Giants, Cubs, Mariners, Blue Jays and Marlins. He hit .290 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 67 games with Miami in 2015.
The decision to call up Gillespie leaves the Marlins with five outfielders -- Marcell Ozuna, Giancarlo Stanton, Ichiro Suzuki, Christian Yelich and Gillespie -- on their 25-man roster.
