MILWAUKEE -- Calling the move precautionary, the Brewers on Friday placed pitching prospect Cody Ponce on the Class A Advanced Brevard County disabled list with right forearm fatigue.
Ponce, a 21-year-old right-hander, ranks eighth on MLBPipeline.com's list of the top Brewers prospects. He generated first-round buzz in the run-up to the 2015 Draft but fell to the Brewers in the second round at No. 55 overall, then shot up the prospect lists after going 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings for two different Milwaukee affiliates.
Brevard County lost its Opening Day game on Thursday despite a quality start from right-hander Brandon Woodruff. The pitching staff also includes No. 7 Brewers prospect Kodi Medeiros, the team's first round pick in 2014, and No. 21 Bubba Derby, acquired from the A's with catcher Jacob Nottingham in February for outfielder Khris Davis.
