Shortstop CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals earned his first career Electric Play of the Week Award presented by Chevrolet, and he joined Anthony Rendon (May 2019) and Victor Robles (June 2019 and August 2020) as the only Nationals to receive the honor since the award was introduced in 2019.
In the bottom of the sixth inning of a one-run game, Abrams made a diving stop to his right, hopped up and fired the ball to first to take away a hit from Philadelphia’s Alec Bohm.
Additional Play of the Week candidates included Tommy Pham’s great leaping catch in Baltimore; Will Benson’s catch at the wall to take away a home run from Max Kepler; Alfonso Rivas’ diving grab in foul territory in the ninth inning of a one-run game; Edmundo Sosa’s incredible tag at second base to retire JJ Bleday; and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s impressive behind-the-back flip to Alek Manoah to record the out at first base.
