The Astros are adding backstop depth ahead of the Trade Deadline, agreeing to a deal with the Red Sox for catcher Christian Vázquez on Monday. Houston sent two Minor Leaguers, IF Enmanuel Valdez and OF Wilyer Abreu, back to Boston in the deal.
This is the second move Houston made in the span of a few hours, first dealing for Orioles 1B/DH Trey Mancini.
Vázquez is a surehanded catcher who can provide offensive production as well, and he won a World Series with Boston in 2018. He's slashing .282/.327/.432 this season.
The Astros began a series at home against the Red Sox on Monday night.
