Chipper Jones played solid defense at shortstop, third base and in the outfield for the Braves throughout his 19-year Hall of Fame career, and he showed off his knack for finding the ball in the ninth inning of Atlanta's National League Division Series-opening loss, 7-6, to the Cardinals on Thursday by catching a foul ball from the fourth row at SunTrust Park.
A pitch before grounding out to lead off the top of the ninth, Randy Arozarena hit a pop foul that veered out of play, beyond the home on-deck circle. The ball took a high bounce before making its way to Jones, who made an easy over-the-shoulder grab and shared a laugh.
The catch came on an eventful day for Jones, who also threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
