Padilla joins exclusive group of White Sox
ST. PETERSBURG -- Nicholas Padilla added his name to a growing list of players who have suited up for the Cubs and White Sox.
The right-handed hurler was the 27th man for the White Sox during their doubleheader split Tuesday with the Phillies, but he was returned to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night after not getting into either game. Padilla pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief for the Cubs at Wrigley Field against the Cardinals on Aug. 23, 2022, during his lone Major League appearance.
“Chicago’s amazing overall,” Padilla said. “Wasn’t much of a move. It was pretty easy.”
Padilla, 26, has a 2.35 ERA over seven games with the Knights. He has fanned nine over 7 2/3 innings, although he also has walked seven. His Minor League performance and brief trip to Chicago followed an appearance with Team Puerto Rico during the World Baseball Classic.
“It was amazing. Great experience, great group of guys. The energy was amazing. You can’t beat anything like that,” said Padilla about playing for Puerto Rico. “It’s a playoff game every game over there.
“It’s win or go home, and you see it in the energy in the crowd and stands. Even the fans when guys aren’t doing too well, they’re still cheering you on, they’re not going against you. Everyone’s for everyone.”
