Cuthbert, Smith ink Minors deals with Reds

CINCINNATI -- The Reds completed a pair of signings on Tuesday by adding infielder Cheslor Cuthbert and outfielder Dwight Smith via Minor League contracts.

Both players were invited to big league camp at Spring Training.

Cuthbert, a 28-year-old corner infielder, appeared in one game with the White Sox in 2020 and was 0-for-1. The native of Nicaragua spent parts of five seasons from 2015-19 with the Royals, and his lifetime slash line is .250/.300/.378, with 27 home runs.

Smith, 28, was a first-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2011 and spent parts of two big league seasons with Toronto before he was traded to the Orioles ahead of the ’19 season.

In 21 games with Baltimore in 2020, Smith slashed .222/.306/.365 with two homers. Over four seasons, his career slash line is .248/.310/.416 hitter with 17 homers.
