ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals have added another outfielder to their Spring Training invite list with the signing of 28-year-old Carlos Peguero to a Minor League deal Friday. The contract includes a guaranteed invitation to Major League camp.
Peguero, the eighth player to sign a Minor League contract with the team this offseason, has been on a Major League roster for parts of each of the past five seasons. He was most recently a member of the Red Sox organization and went 14-for-75 in 34 games at the big league level in 2015.

He also appeared in the Majors with Seattle (2011-13), Kansas City (2014) and Texas (2015). All combined, Peguero has hit .194/.263/.384 over 319 plate appearances. He has played primarily as a corner outfielder, a position where the Cardinals could lack depth if injuries become an issue on the big league roster.
Peguero is a career .273/.335/.511 hitter over 10 Minor League seasons and had a standout 2014 season in which he hit 30 home runs in 104 Triple-A games with Omaha. Peguero recently appeared in 10 Dominican Winter League games, where he hit .139/.295/.222.
With Peguero signed, the Cardinals have now issued 62 invitations to Major League camp. Of those invites, 23 have gone to non-roster players.
