DENVER -- The Mets' Pete Alonso and the Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. have revealed they will participate in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby next Monday at Dodger Stadium during All-Star Game festivities. Will they be joined by the Rockies' C.J. Cron, the team's leader in homers and one of the longest drivers in the sport?
Cron is mum for now. But manager Bud Black is excited at the prospect and has had a discussion with Cron about who will serve pitches for him to swat.
"I think I'm down the list a little bit, so he's going to let me have my four days," Black said. "I think his dad [Athletics assistant hitting coach Chris Cron] has a bum shoulder -- we were talking about that yesterday, and I've got to follow up on that."
The likely pitcher would be Rockies bench coach Mike Redmond, who threw to Trevor Story last year in the Derby at Coors Field.
