Twins center fielder Byron Buxton earned his first career Electric Play of the Week Award presented by Chevrolet on Tuesday, and he's Minnesota’s first winner since the award was introduced in 2019.
In the top of the fourth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field, Buxton sprinted to the warning track in right-center field to make a diving catch and rob Jeimer Candelario of an extra-base hit.
Additional Play of the Week candidates included Adam Engel’s home run-robbing catch at Guaranteed Rate Field; Nolan Arenado’s diving stop and throw to second base; Kolten Wong’s diving stop and flip to Luis Urías; Pete Alonso’s diving snag and backhanded flip to Carlos Carrasco; and Aristides Aquino’s throw home to secure the final out and seal a win for Cincinnati.
