Houston Astros pitcher Brooks Raley has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at and hitting J.P. Crawford of the Seattle Mariners in the bottom of the eighth inning of Monday night’s game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.
The suspension of Raley had been scheduled to begin on Friday, with the Astros on the road vs. the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. However, Raley has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
In addition, Astros manager Dusty Baker has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Raley’s intentional throwing. Baker will serve his suspension on Friday.
