Minor Leaguer Betancourt injured in shooting

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers general manager David Stearns confirmed reports that Minor League infielder Javier Betancourt suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during an incident in Venezuela, and Stearns said MLB security was investigating the matter.
A report from the newspaper El Nacional said Betancourt was shot near his left elbow on Friday after a dispute.
"We are aware of the incident and MLB security is investigating further," Stearns said. "Javier's injuries are not life-threatening and he is resting comfortably. At this point, we are evaluating further treatment options."
The Brewers acquired Betancourt, now 22, along with catcher Manny Piña in a 2015 trade with the Tigers for closer Francisco Rodríguez. Betancourt played the past two seasons at Double-A Biloxi, where he slashed .243/.286/.367 in 2017. He had been playing winter ball in Caracas before the incident.
