With his Hall of Fame father retiring after the 2011 season, it was only a matter of time before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. faced a pitcher in the Majors who also pitched to his dad.
That happened for the first time during the A's 7-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday, when the Athletics' Brett Anderson pitched to Guerrero with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning at Rogers Centre, striking him out looking.
Anderson faced Vladimir Guerrero Sr. five times from 2009-10, and the Hall of Famer went 1-for-5 against him with a single.
Guerrero Jr. went 0-for-2 with a walk against Anderson on Saturday, though he did hit a 104.3 mph lineout to second in the second inning.
It may not be long before another pitcher sees the younger Guerrero in the batter's box after having pitched to his father years ago: Trevor Cahill, against whom Guerrero Sr. went 2-for-11 with three walks in his career, would be lined up to pitch the series opener between the Angels and Blue Jays on Tuesday, though the Angels haven't announced probable starters for that series yet.
Following the series against the Angels, the Blue Jays head to Texas for three games against the Rangers. Right-hander Lance Lynn faced the elder Guerrero once, giving up a single back in 2011.
