He was promoted to the same team
It sounds strange to say, but when you consider Minor League Baseball affiliates were rearranged before the 2021 season, it makes a bit more sense. Davis played for the Low-A South Bend Cubs in 2019 prior to the realignment, then was assigned to the (now) High-A South Bend Cubs to start the '21 season. It gets even weirder when you consider Davis spent his '20 season at the Cubs' alternate site ... which was at Four Winds Field, home of the South Bend Cubs.
He won a championship in his first full season
Despite dealing with a hand injury throughout his first full professional campaign, Davis hit .305 with eight home runs and 30 RBIs across 50 games during his full-season debut. He followed that up with a stellar postseason debut, registering a .310/.394/.414 slash line across seven playoff games to help South Bend secure a Midwest League title. Following the season, he was named the Cubs' Minor League Player of the Year by the organization.
He has 30-30 potential
From an organizational standpoint, Davis has a chance to mold into the best Cubs homegrown outfielder since Rafael Palmeiro came through their player pipeline in the mid-1980s. On the field, Davis has added roughly 30 pounds and bulked up his 6-foot-4 frame to north of 200 pounds. With long arms and a lengthy stride, certain scouts believe Davis has flashed the potential to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases across a 162-game season, joining legendary players such as Sammy Sosa in the Cubs 30-30 club. Over three Minor League levels in 2021 (High-A, Double-A and Triple-A), he hit .260/.375/.494 with 19 home runs and eight steals in 100 games.

He models his game after Lorenzo Cain
Yes, players are now modeling their games after folks who debuted in 2010. Yes, it makes everyone feel old. Some scouts see Justin Upton as a comparison for Davis, but the former University of Miami commit told NBC Sports Chicago he models his game after another outfield standout, Lorenzo Cain, due to Cain’s energy in the field and explosiveness on the basepaths.
Yes, he can ball
Some baseball players dedicate themselves to one sport at an early age. Some play multiple sports, but only have one path toward turning pro. Others, like Davis, are skilled enough athletes to have legitimate career options. Davis led Basha High to an Arizona 6-A state title in 2017, and was named the region’s defensive player of the year while visiting Ivy League basketball programs such as Cornell and Yale, but chose to focus on baseball prior to his high school senior season.

He grew up with a petting zoo worth of animals
At the time he was drafted, Davis had two pet llamas named Marco and Polo, two goats, two dogs and fish. Luckily for him, the Cubs snapped the Curse of the Billy Goat with their 2016 World Series win, so fans can focus on Davis’s on-field accomplishments once he makes the Major League roster.
