July 21: 2B Ozzie Albies (left wrist fracture) to be placed on 10-day injured list
Albies exited Sunday’s game against the Cardinals in the top of the ninth inning with what X-rays revealed to be a left wrist fracture. The team announced that he is expected to miss approximately eight weeks.

Albies was injured trying to tag out Michael Siani stealing second when the Cardinals center fielder collided with his glove hand. Manager Brian Snitker and trainers came out to check on Albies, and he quickly walked off the field with the staff.

July 21: LHP Max Fried (left forearm neuritis) heads to injured list; LHP Dylan Dodd recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett
The Braves rotation suffered a significant blow on Sunday, as Fried was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, with left forearm neuritis. The team recalled left-hander Dylan Dodd in a corresponding move.

Fried, who threw a scoreless inning for the National League team in the All-Star Game, is 7-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 108 innings this season, with 95 strikeouts and 34 walks issued.

“He felt [the injury] when he was doing arm circles before he pitched at the All-Star Game,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Cardinals. “He felt a little something, he pitched, he got through his inning. When he came [to Truist Park] Friday, he could still feel something so he wanted to get it checked out. They did the MRI.

“It’s probably a best-case scenario. He’s gonna have to miss a little time. Nothing showed on the MRI or anything. They’ll just put him down until he’s asymptomatic and he’ll start throwing again.”

July 21: RHP Bryce Elder optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett
Elder, who was recalled to Atlanta from Triple-A Gwinnett as the Braves’ 27th man for their Saturday split doubleheader against the Cardinals, was optioned back to Gwinnett on Sunday.

Elder started the second game of the Saturday split doubleheader, and he allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings of work in Atlanta’s 9-5 loss.

July 20: RHP Ian Anderson (Tommy John surgery) makes first rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett
Anderson, who underwent Tommy John surgery in April of 2023 and was activated from Triple-A Gwinnett’s 60-day injured list on Thursday, made his first rehab start for the Stripers on Saturday.

Anderson allowed four runs on six hits and one walk over 3 2/3 innings and he struck out four. Anderson threw 70 pitches (42 strikes). It was Anderson’s fifth rehab start.

July 19: OF Ramón Laureano (left oblique strain) activated from 10-day IL
Laureano was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 10, retroactive to July 9. The Braves signed Laureano to a Minor League contract on May 29 and selected his contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on June 15.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP Max Fried (left forearm neuritis)
Expected return: TBD
Fried was placed on the Braves’ 15-day injured list on July 21, backdated to July 18, after feeling discomfort in his left forearm during warm-ups prior to pitching an inning in the All-Star Game. Fried didn’t think the discomfort was enough to stop him from pitching in the All-Star Game, but it was lingering when he returned to Truist Park on July 19. Fried underwent an MRI, which showed nerve irritation but no soft-tissue damage. (Last updated: July 21)

CF Michael Harris II (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Late July
Harris began light running exercises on July 3, but manager Brian Snitker said the center fielder is still a long way from being ready to be activated. Harris was cleared to begin hitting and throwing the previous week. He strained his left hamstring during a June 14 game against the Rays. An MRI exam showed he suffered a Grade 2 strain. The Braves haven't put a timetable on his return, but it seems clear the center fielder will be out until after the All-Star break. (Last updated: July 3)

RHP Hurston Waldrep (right elbow inflammation; *No. 2 on Braves top prospects list*)
Expected return: TBD
Waldrep was told he was being sent down after a June 16 start against the Rays, but he was placed on the injured list after telling the team's trainers that he was dealing with right elbow discomfort. The 22-year-old hurler doesn't have any structural damage. (Last updated: June 21)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP Ray Kerr (left elbow UCL)
Expected return: 2025
Kerr complained about the elbow after arriving to Triple-A Gwinnett, and manager Brian Snitker said he expects the 29-year-old will have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Kerr was optioned to Gwinnett on June 15, but he didn’t throw a pitch there. He was instead placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to June 16, and the team voided his option to Gwinnett. Kerr appeared in 10 games, including two starts, for the Braves this season. He was 1-2 with a 5.64 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 5. LHP Tyler Matzek (left elbow soreness)
Expected return:
TBD
Matzek has been crow hopping while throwing from 90 feet. He has been encouraged by how his arm has felt, but it's too early to project when he might be available to pitch again. He posted a 9.90 ERA and produced some concerning hard-hit metrics over 11 appearances this season. He rested his arm for six weeks before recently being cleared to begin throwing again. (Last updated: June 28)

RHP Huascar Ynoa (right elbow stress reaction)
Expected return:
TBD
Ynoa has struggled to return since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022. The right-hander made three appearances for Triple-A Gwinnett this year, but he hasn't pitched since April 14. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 16 to create a 40-man roster spot for Grant Holmes. (Last updated: June 16)

RHP Spencer Strider (right ulnar collateral ligament)
Expected return: 2025
After visiting Dr. Keith Meister on April 8, Strider underwent internal brace surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on April 12 and will miss the rest of the 2024 season. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 15. (Last updated: June 15)

OF Ronald Acuña Jr. (ACL tear in left knee)
Expected return: 2025
Acuña underwent season-ending surgery on June 4 after suffering an ACL tear in his left knee on May 26 in Pittsburgh. The operation was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Acuña will remain in Southern California for around 45 days post-op to begin his rehab before returning to the team.

“My goal is to come back as a better player and a better person,” Acuña said on May 30. “Who knows, maybe I can win another MVP.” (Last updated: June 6)

LHP Angel Perdomo (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Perdomo was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 4. He is recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last fall and will miss the entire 2024 season. (Last updated: May 4)
