ATLANTA -- Braves third baseman Adonis García will be sidelined approximately two months while recovering from surgery to repair ligament damage in his left ring finger.
Garcia injured his finger while taking a swing during the ninth inning of a June 6 loss to the Phillies. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list the next day. Initially, Atlanta was hopeful that Garcia could avoid the surgical procedure, which was performed by Dr. Gary Lourie.
Rio Ruiz will now likely serve as the Braves' primary third baseman. But Johan Camargo and Danny Santana could occasionally spell Ruiz, who has struggled against left-handed pitching throughout his professional career.
