Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe had a big night on Tuesday in Boston, finishing a triple shy of the cycle in Tampa Bay’s 8-4 win over the Red Sox. But Lowe’s single -- not his double or solo homer -- might have been his most impressive feat of the night.
Lowe put the finishing touches on the Rays’ comeback victory with what initially appeared to be a normal bloop RBI single to center field in the ninth inning. But a zoomed-in replay of Lowe’s swing revealed that he struck the ball not once, but _twice_, first near the handle and then closer to the barrel of his bat to give the ball some knuckling spin as it floated to shallow center.
Upon further inspection, a seemingly routine single put Lowe into the pantheon of players with double-struck base hits.
