Knee surgery being considered for Belt

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants first baseman Brandon Belt and the team's medical staff are discussing whether he should undergo offseason surgery on his sore right knee, manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.
"That's what they're talking about now," Bochy said. "There's that possibility, sure."
Bochy cited no other details about the nature of Belt's injury or the proposed procedure, except to say that the 30-year-old might have some "meniscus issues."
Belt likely will remain with the Giants through the rest of the season, if only because Austin Slater, who's primarily an outfielder, is the club's lone position player who has meaningful experience playing first.
In another injury-related development, infielder-outfielder Ryder Jones will undergo surgery Wednesday to fix his left patella. Jones also told reporters that he'll receive a "cleanup" of the same knee to relieve him of tendinitis that has bothered him throughout the season. Giants team orthopedist Ken Akuzuki will perform the procedures.
Jones, 24, said he should be able to resume hitting off a tee and taking ground balls by Christmas. He expects to be fully ready for Spring Training.
