Witt hits 12th homer, drives in five
Bobby Witt Jr.’s dominant month of June just reached its crescendo.
Kansas City’s top prospect rewrote his personal record book Saturday night, recording a career-high four hits and five RBIs as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals rolled to a 9-5 victory over their in-state rivals, the Arkansas Travelers.
Witt broke the game open with a three-run homer in the second inning before adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the eighth.
The Texas native also roped a double to left field in the game’s first frame, finishing a triple shy of the cycle during his latest outburst.
MLB Pipeline’s No. 7 overall prospect has been on a tear as of late, hitting .409 (18-for-44) with two home runs and 13 RBIs across his past 11 games. Since June 1, he ranks among the Double-A Central leaders in a number of offensive categories including hits (29, 2nd), extra-base hits (13, T-1st), total bases (55, 2nd), and RBIs (18, T-4th).
After facing anticipated early season struggles Witt is now hitting .286 (50-for-175) with 12 homers and 31 RBIs through his first 43 Double-A games after spending last season at the Royals alternate training site.
The Royals selected Witt second overall in the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft out of Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas. He is the son of 16-year MLB veteran Bobby Witt.
