Additions to come after Toronto options Loup, designates Diamond

TORONTO -- Left-hander Aaron Loup was optioned and fellow reliever Scott Diamond was designated for assignment following the Blue Jays' 11-3 victory over the Phillies at Rogers Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Toronto likely won't announce the corresponding moves until Wednesday, but the club is expected to add at least one more position player to the roster.
The Blue Jays open another two-game Interleague series against the Phillies on Wednesday evening. With the two games taking place in a National League park, pitchers will be forced to hit, so the club could use another utility player off the bench.
Toronto has spent most of the past three weeks with an eight-man bullpen. That has left the club short one man on the bench, and utility player Andy Burns is a logical choice to receive a promotion. Dalton Pompey is another outfielder the Blue Jays could consider for a short-term stint.
Lefty Chad Girodo is one of the top possibilities to join the bullpen. Girodo appeared in 11 games for the Blue Jays earlier this season and allowed four runs over 8 1/3 innings. Following the demotions of Loup and Diamond, the Blue Jays do not have a left-handed reliever on the roster.
