Treinen gets record reliever raise in arbitration

A's closer Blake Treinen has won his arbitration case and will make $6.4 million in 2019, a source confirmed to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Saturday.
The team hasn't confirmed the news, but Treinen's agency, Sosnick Cobbe & Karon, also tweeted Saturday morning that Treinen had won his case.

Treinen emerged as one of the top closers in baseball last season, with 38 saves and a 0.78 ERA that was the best among relievers. The 30-year-old right-hander was a first-time All-Star and finished sixth in the American League Cy Young Award voting.
That performance will get Treinen a $4.25 million raise from the $2.15 million he made in 2018 as a first-year arbitration-eligible player. The increase is a record for a reliever going from his first to his second year of arbitration eligibility.
The A's had filed at $5.6 million for Treinen's case when he and the team exchanged figures in mid-January.
