Blue Jays sign Revere to Minor League deal
TORONTO -- The Blue Jays have agreed to a reunion with Ben Revere by signing the veteran outfielder to a Minor League deal on Saturday.
Revere is scheduled to report to extended spring training in Dunedin, Fla., on Tuesday. He will work himself into game shape before being assigned either to a Minor League team or the big league squad.
The 30-year-old Revere appeared in 56 games for the Blue Jays in 2015. He spent part of that year as Toronto's leadoff man and starting left fielder after being acquired from Philadelphia prior to the non-waiver Trade Deadline.
Revere hasn't appeared in the Major Leagues since 2017. Last year, he appeared in 40 games for Triple-A Salt Lake and slashed .277/.319/.406. Over parts of eight seasons in the Majors, Revere is a career .284 hitter with a .661 OPS.
The Blue Jays may eventually have an opening on the big league roster for Revere. An injury could open a spot and it's also possible he would earn consideration for the fourth outfielder's spot, which is currently held by Socrates Brito.
