Gamel registers 2019's fastest inside-the-parker

MILWAUKEE – The fastest home-to-home dash of 2019 brought Miller Park to life on Wednesday night during the Brewers' 4-2 loss to the Mariners as Milwaukee tried to hit their way back into the game.

All-Star Game hopeful Mike Moustakas hit his 23rd home run to put Milwaukee on the board in the sixth inning and former Mariner Ben Gamel followed two batters later with the 29th inside-the-park home run in Brewers history to cut Milwaukee’s deficit to 3-2.

At 14.89 seconds, it was the fastest scamper around the bases this season in MLB, which has seen 10 inside-the-park home runs. And it was the fastest by a Brewers player since Statcast began tracking in 2015, when Carlos Gomez set the previous mark at 15.01 seconds on a triple and an error.

“Pretty tiring,” Gamel said.

He was thinking triple when his bloop hit down the left-field line bounced past diving Mariners outfielder Mac Williamson and bounced toward the wall.

“I knew I had at least three, and then, right there, I’m just on Eddie [Sedar, the third-base coach],” said Gamel.

The Brewers acquired Gamel and pitching prospect Noah Zavolas from the Mariners in a trade for Domingo Santana on Dec. 21, 2018. The homer was Gamel’s fifth this season.
