The best baseball players born on March 10
Who are the best players born on each day of the year? We have a list for every day on the calendar.
Here’s a subjective ranking of the top five for March 10:
1) John Briggs (1944)
Briggs was a solid-hitting outfielder who spent the bulk of his career with the Phillies (eight seasons) and the Brewers (five seasons). The highlight of his career was his six-hit performance for Milwaukee on Aug. 4, 1973, an effort that included two doubles and two runs scored.
2) Mike Timlin (1966)
The right-handed reliever was a four-time World Series champion, picking up a pair of rings with the Blue Jays in 1992 and ‘93, then another two with the Red Sox in 2004 and ‘07. His biggest contribution was getting the final out in Game 6 of the 1992 Fall Classic to bring Toronto its first-ever title.

3) Gene DeMontreville (1873)
A true journeyman, DeMontreville played for eight clubs over the course of his 11-year career, which spanned from 1894-1904. The infielder and lifetime .303 hitter had a 36-hit game hitting streak that ran from 1896-97, which ranked as the 10th-longest such streak in AL/NL history at the time.
4) Steve Howe (1958)
Howe, a left-handed reliever, burst onto the scene by winning the 1980 Rookie of the Year Award with the Dodgers. The following season, he helped the Dodgers win the World Series by posting a 2.45 ERA in seven postseason appearances, including 3 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up the save in Game 6. Unfortunately, Howe's career was significantly derailed by substance abuse issues.
5) John Cangelosi (1963)
The reserve outfielder played for seven different clubs during his 13 seasons in the Majors, including the 1997 world champion Florida Marlins. He was also the first position player to make a pitching appearance in Marlins franchise history; he had a 0.00 career ERA across three outings (four innings) for three different teams.
