The best baseball players born on June 9

Here is a subjective ranking of the top five for June 9:
1) Dave Parker (1951)
One of the game’s elite hitters of the 1970s and ‘80s, Parker was a two-time batting champ, two-time World Series champ and the 1978 National League MVP. The seven-time All-Star also won three Gold Gloves and hit 339 homers across 19 seasons.

2) Frank McCormick (1911)
An excellent all-around player who rarely struck out, McCormick was a nine-time All-Star and won the NL MVP Award in 1940, when he led the Senior Circuit in hits for the third consecutive season. All told, McCormick whiffed only 189 times in 13 seasons, while posting a .299 lifetime average and 128 home runs.
3) Randy Winn (1974)
The talented outfielder thrice hit over .300 and was an All-Star in 2002, but he’s also remembered for something more unique. Winn is one of the few modern players to be traded for a manager, sent to Seattle in '02 as compensation for Lou Piniella being hired by the nascent Devil Rays.

4) Yuli Gurriel (1984)
The longtime Cuban star debuted for the Astros in 2016 at age 32 and had an immediate impact, helping Houston to the World Series title in '17. He won the AL batting crown in '21, and helped the Astros to capture another championship in '22.

5) Bill Virdon (1931)
Virdon was the 1955 National League Rookie of the Year with the Cardinals, a member of the 1960 champion Pirates and a Gold Glove winner in ’62 in Pittsburgh. After a 12-year playing career he managed for 15 seasons, leading the Bucs and Astros to division titles while also managing the Yankees and Expos.

Irish Meusel (1893)
The slugging outfielder of the Deadball Era won World Series titles with the New York Giants in 1921 and ’22, and led the NL with 125 RBIs in ’23.
Mike Fontenot (1980)
Acquired by the Giants down the stretch in 2010, Fontenot played a key role in San Francisco’s run to the World Series that season. The versatile infielder also hit .305 with .909 OPS with the Cubs in 2008, his best of seven big league seasons.
Joe Kelly (1988)
The hard-throwing reliever won World Series titles with the Red Sox in 2018 and Dodgers in '20.
