Avisail robs Walker of HR with leaping grab

NEW YORK -- Right fielder Avisaíl García took a home run away from Neil Walker during the second inning of Wednesday's 4-1 White Sox victory over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, completing the first series win for the White Sox at the new Yankee Stadium.
Walker drilled a Reynaldo López changeup on the second pitch of the at-bat to right, and it looked like he had his second consecutive home run after hitting a walk-off blast Tuesday. Garcia moved back to the wall and jumped a bit early, but he made the play on a ball that camera angles showed would have carried into the stands.
"Yeah, I was playing deep so I had a really good chance," Garcia said. "Just jump and be focused."

That catch came two pitches after White Sox manager Rick Renteria and head athletic trainer Herm Schneider came to the mound with one out to check on Lopez when his velocity noticeably dipped in the first two innings. The right-hander stayed in the game and retired the first six Yankees of the game with Garcia's help to protect a 2-0 lead.
Garcia, who is mired in a 13-for-92 slump over his last 25 games and finished 0-for-4 Wednesday, had a hit taken away by Aaron Hicks in the fifth. With José Rondón on second, Hicks raced into left-center and made a sprawling grab of Garcia's bid for extra bases.

"Whatever happens, happens," said Garcia of Hicks' play. "I have to continue to be focused, work hard and when you are in a stretch like [his slump], nothing works out. But you have to keep working and keep going. You can't do anything about it."
