LATEST NEWS

Nov. 19: A's add three prospects to 40-man roster, protecting them from Rule 5 Draft
The Athletics protected a trio of prospects from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft by selecting the contracts of outfielder Denzel Clarke (the team's No. 10 prospect) and right-handers Gunnar Hoglund (No. 12) and Ryan Cusick. All three were officially added to the A's 40-man roster, which now stands at 37 players. More >>

Nov. 11: RHP Jared Johnson acquired in trade with Braves for INF Nick Allen
The Athletics added to their pitching depth on Monday, acquiring Johnson from Atlanta in exchange for Allen. Johnson, 23, posted a 2.60 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 52 innings with High-A Rome in 2024. The reliever wasn't on the Braves' 40-man roster, so the A's freed up a 40-man spot with the trade. But he is eligible to be selected in next month's Rule 5 Draft, so the A's could decide to add him to the roster to protect him from being selected. Allen, 26, was once considered the club's shortstop of the future and was a strong defender but struggled offensively in the Majors. He slashed .209/.254/.283 in 247 games over the past three seasons and is out of Minor League options.

Oct. 31: OF Daz Cameron traded to O's for cash considerations
Cameron began the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and was hitting .307 with six home runs and a 1.001 OPS before he was selected to the Major League roster on May 23. He spent the remainder of the season with the A’s, starting in 45 of the team’s 110 remaining games, hitting .200 with five home runs, five steals and a .587 OPS in 186 plate appearances.

Ruiz underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Sept. 24 with Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas, Texas. The operation included a patella tendon debridement along with a chondroplasty procedure. Ruiz will complete his post-surgical rehabilitation this offseason, and the A's are hopeful he will be ready for the start of 2025 Spring Training. (Last updated: Sept. 24)

LF Miguel Andujar (core muscle surgery)
Expected return: Spring Training 2025
Andujar underwent successful core muscle surgery with Dr. William Meyers on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia. He began his rehab before heading into the offseason, and the A's are hopeful he will be ready for the start of Spring Training. (Last updated: Sept. 10)

RHP Luis Medina (right elbow sprain)
Expected return: Late 2025/early 2026
A's manager Mark Kotsay said Medina (right elbow strain) would undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery with Dr. Keith Meister on Aug. 6. Medina was transferred to the 60-day IL on Aug. 2.

Medina had a 2-4 record and a 5.18 ERA over eight starts. Based on the general timeframe for Tommy John surgery, Medina could be looking at missing all or most of next year as well. It's a tough blow for a young pitcher that the A's were hoping could be a part of their rebuild. (Last updated: Aug. 2)

LHP Alex Wood (left rotator cuff tendinitis)
Expected return: 2025
Wood had left shoulder arthroscopic surgery with Dr. Tim Kremchek on July 26, and the extensive labral debridement procedure ended the left-hander's season. Wood posted a 5.26 ERA in nine starts for Oakland this year and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. (Last updated: July 26)

LHP Ken Waldichuk (left elbow sprain)
Expected return: June 2025
Waldichuk underwent a successful Tommy John surgery and internal brace procedure with Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on May 15. Sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 season, the A’s estimate a recovery timeline of 13 months, which puts Waldichuk in line for a potential return to Major League action next June.
