Gold-themed uniforms on tap for first 2 home games
HOUSTON -- After the Astros won the World Series last year, Houston rapper Paul Wall followed through on his offer to buy each one of the players gold "grillz" for their teeth. The Astros will be showing off a little more gold when the regular season starts.
Coming off their first World Series championship, the Astros unveiled special uniforms Wednesday they will wear during their first two home games of the season, April 2 and 3, against the Orioles. The lettering and the numbering on the front and back of the uniforms will be in gold, along with a gold star on the caps and a World Series champions logo.
The gold-trimmed jerseys and hats will be available in the Astros team store beginning March 19.
The team will unveil its 2017 championship banner prior to the April 2 home opener at Minute Maid Park and have its championship ring ceremony prior to the April 3 game. The Astros, who begin Spring Training next Wednesday, will have their 2018 promotional schedule filled with World Series-related items.
Among the early-season promotional items are a replica World Series trophy (April 6 vs. San Diego), World Series posters (April 8 vs. San Diego), replica World Series rings (April 7 vs. San Diego) and a George Springer World Series MVP bobblehead (April 14 vs. Texas).
The Astros also unveiled their marketing slogan for 2018: Never Settle. That will be prominent on the team's social media posts throughout the year, as well as signage throughout Minute Maid Park.
