Davis among top prospect performers

J.D. Davis is heating up at the perfect time. As the season draws near, hits are coming in bunches for the Astros' No. 13 prospect.
The 23-year-old third baseman went 3-for-4, his first three-hit game of Spring Training, in Houston's 8-4 win over the Twins on Wednesday.
Davis has notched multihit games in three of his past six contests and is hitting .342 through 20 games.
More notable performances from top prospects:
• The Orioles are opting to keep Chance Sisco (Orioles' No. 1, No. 99 overall) in camp for more exposure and he's certainly rewarding the decision. The young catcher had just one at-bat on Wednesday, but made the most of it, belting a three-run homer, his first of Spring Training.
• Frankie Montas (Athletics' No. 5) picked up his second save of Spring Training in Oakland's win over the White Sox. Montas gave up one hit and struck out four in two strong innings.
• Cardinals' No. 9 prospect Dakota Hudson, the club's first-round selection from the 2016 Draft, made his first appearance of Spring Training and it couldn't have gone much better. The 22-year-old pitched one inning against the Nationals and faced four batters, giving up one hit.
• Yandy Díaz (Indians' No. 10) extended both his hitting streak and RBI streak with a 2-for-3 performance against the Rockies. Diaz has hits in six consecutive games and RBIs in each of the past five -- including a four-RBI game on March 20.

• Drew Robinson (Rangers' No. 23) may be on his way toward breaking out of his funk. After going hitless in each of his past four games and five of his past six, Robinson, who finished 1-for-2, got off to a strong start against the Angels with an RBI double in his first at-bat.

• Daniel Robertson (Rays' No. 17) extended his hitting streak to three games with his first three-hit game this spring. Robertson is hitting .220 this spring, but has six hits in his past 10 at-bats.
• Kyle Freeland (Rockies' No. 6) finally gave up a run. After posting three consecutive scoreless outings (one start), the lefty gave up one run against the Indians. However, that was all the Indians mustered off Freeland, who continues to pitch well as he struck out five and gave up four hits in five innings.
"I obviously know there's two [rotation] spots open, and I'm in competition for them, but my mentality is to come in here, do the work that I need to do, do the little things, stay focused, and not worry about decisions that are going to be made that I don't have any control over," Freeland said.
He also made an impact offensively, driving in a trio of runs with a single to right.

Through 16 innings, Freeland's ERA sits at 2.25.
• Harrison Musgrave, the Rockies' No. 27 prospect, followed up Freeland with a strong outing of his own. Musgrave threw three innings, struck out two and gave up one run on five hits. Musgrave has appeared in six games this spring and given up one earned run or fewer in five of those appearances.
