Thirteen Houston Astros pitchers have started at least 50 games over the last decade (2014-23). Two of those pitchers are currently on the active roster -- Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier -- and a third is nearing a return from the injured list -- José Urquidy.
Those three players have a combined 224 starts over that time (all since 2017). How have bettors fared when picking the Astros’ run line in games started by one of those pitchers?
By ATS (against the spread) percentage, Urquidy has been the best, ranking fifth among those 13 pitchers with at least 50 starts:
- Gerrit Cole: .615
- Collin McHugh: .573
- Charlie Morton: .564
- Justin Verlander: .559
- José Urquidy: .538
- Dallas Keuchel: .531
- Framber Valdez: .500
- Scott Feldman: .500
- Brad Peacock: .470
- Cristian Javier: .460
- Zack Greinke: .451
- Lance McCullers Jr.: .449
- Mike Fiers: .433
By ROI (return on investment) -- for example, if someone profited $75 on a $100 run-line bet, the ROI on that bet would be +75% -- Urquidy has also been the best, ranking fourth:
- Charlie Morton: +16.9%
- Gerrit Cole: +14.8%
- Collin McHugh: +13.9%
- José Urquidy: +9%
- Dallas Keuchel: +6.6%
- Justin Verlander: +4.9%
- Framber Valdez: -2%
- Brad Peacock: -2.7%
- Mike Fiers: -7.1%
- Lance McCullers Jr.: -7.9%
- Cristian Javier: -9.1%
- Scott Feldman: -10.4%
- Zack Greinke: -12.6%
Be on the lookout when Urquidy does return to the Astros this season to continue to bet the best current Astros ROI pitcher.
