Harris County commissioners voted Tuesday to move forward with plans for $105 million in renovations to the Astrodome, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.
The Astrodome, which was the home of the Astros from its opening in 1965 until '99, will be transformed into an event and convention space.
The redesign process approved in September 2016 was confirmed to begin upon Tuesday's vote. The project will "raise the ground level two floors to fit in roughly 1,400 parking spaces" and convert the stadium into "a venue for festivals and conferences" according to the report, with construction is set to begin later in 2018.
