ANAHEIM -- Angels slugger Albert Pujols underwent foot surgery Friday to release his right plantar fascia.
The Angels said the estimated recovery time is four months. That timetable would put Pujols on track to return just before Opening Day. However, Pujols has been known as a quick healer during his career.
Pujols, 36, played through plantar fasciitis throughout the 2016 season. He hit .268/.323/.457 with 31 home runs and 119 RBIs in 152 games this season.
Friday's procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina. The Angels and Pujols had said as recently as September that surgery was not on the table heading into the offseason.
