DENVER -- Rays right-hander Andrew Kittredge and Twins left-hander Taylor Rogers have been added to the American League All-Star team as replacements for right-hander Gerrit Cole of the Yankees and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi of the Mariners.

Cole tossed one of the best outings of his career on Saturday against his former club, blanking the Astros in a three-hit shutout on 129 pitches. He had been ill just two days prior, needing to be hospitalized briefly to get fluids via IV. His pitch count dashed any possibility of Cole pitching in Tuesday's Midsummer Classic.

Kikuchi, meanwhile, went on the COVID-19 injured list on Sunday, but is participating in the All-Star festivities after testing negative twice and being activated Monday.

Kittredge is having a breakout season for Tampa Bay, entering the All-Star break with a 1.47 ERA and 0.86 WHIP over 32 appearances.

Rogers has been solid for Minnesota, as well, entering the break with a 3.35 ERA and 35 percent strikeout rate in 36 appearances.
