Cashner off DL; Martinez to Round Rock

SEATTLE -- The Rangers reinstated starter Andrew Cashner from the 10-day disabled list, officially paving the way for him to make his Rangers debut in Saturday night's game against the Mariners.
As expected, the Rangers optioned right-hander Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock to clear roster space for Cashner, who has been in Arizona for extended spring work while rehabbing a sore right biceps. Cashner, a 30-year-old native of Conroe, Texas, will make his first start against Seattle left-hander James Paxton.
Cashner, who signed with the Rangers as a free agent after pitching for the San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins in 2016, will become the first Texas native to start for the Rangers since Jason Jennings, of Mesquite, Texas, in 2008.
Meanwhile, the Rangers also announced Saturday that right-hander Tanner Scheppers has been reinstated from the 10-day DL and outrighted to Round Rock.
Cashner's biceps injury was originally diagnosed on March 2, which forced him to miss the majority of Spring Training. He received two injections March 10 and mostly pitched in Minor League games before getting action in an exhibition game at Globe Life Park in Arlington vs. the Royals on March 31.
