CHICAGO -- Amir Garrett is no stranger to confrontations. But he did his best to avoid another against Kyle Schwarber during the Reds’ 3-2 win over the Cubs on Wednesday at Wrigley Field.
Following a big strikeout of the Cubs' left fielder in the ninth inning, Garrett pumped his fist and let out a celebratory cheer. Schwarber wasn’t amused as he chirped and pointed at Garrett to go back to the Reds' dugout.
Garrett sprinted over to the dugout with his hands up, making sure to let everyone know he wasn’t looking to have another altercation.
"I was frustrated obviously,” Schwarber said. “He got the best of me there, but whatever it is, we've seen it too many times. I shouldn't have reacted. Whatever.”
Garrett had a slightly different tone about something that could have upset him earlier this season. This time, he wasn’t looking to ignite.
“To be honest, I really don’t even know why he was upset,” Garrett said. “I’ve been going through a little rough patch, and for me to get a big out like that -- he’s a great hitter. It’s nothing new. It’s not something I’m just starting to do. I’m passionate.
“He can have that battle,” he continued. “I just wanted to show kids that if you’re provoked, you can turn the other cheek.”
