SAN FRANCISCO -- Alex Dickerson is getting closer to rejoining the Giants' lineup.
Dickerson, who has been on the injured list since Aug. 1 with a right oblique strain, is on track to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
"It looks like he's turned the corner," manager Bruce Bochy said.
Dickerson hit in the cage Sunday and will come to Oracle Park on Monday's off-day to hit on the field. If all goes well, Dickerson will join Sacramento and serve as the designated hitter Tuesday. Bochy said he's unsure how many rehab games Dickerson will need, as the River Cats have a scheduled off-day Wednesday before beginning a road series in Reno on Thursday.
"It could be a day," Bochy said. "Sacramento is hitting the road, so I don't know if we want to send him."
Dickerson, 29, was batting .386 with a 1.222 OPS and six home runs in 30 games for the Giants before landing on the IL.
Sandoval dealing with elbow inflammation
Pablo Sandoval, who celebrated his 33rd birthday Sunday, was out of the Giants' lineup for the fourth consecutive game with right elbow inflammation. Bochy said Sandoval has loose bodies in his throwing elbow and has been dealing with the ailment for "a while." Sandoval was available to pinch-hit Sunday and could return to action Tuesday against the A's.
1989 team reunion
The Giants held a pregame ceremony Sunday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1989 World Series team. Kevin Mitchell, Will Clark and manager Roger Craig, who was escorted onto the field by Bochy, were among the team members in attendance for the festivities. After the introductions, Mitchell and Brett Butler took to the podium to thank the fans at Oracle Park.
"For us, you make us feel like family," Butler said.
The Giants also announced they would be retiring Clark's No. 22, the 12th player or manager from the Giants' franchise to receive that honor.
