Astros All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman’s strained right hamstring is expected to sideline him for about three weeks, according to general manager James Click.

Click, appearing Sunday on the Astros’ pregame show on SportsRadio 790 AM in Houston, said he’s “hoping it’s a three-week thing” in terms of Bregman’s recovery from a hamstring strain suffered Wednesday. Bregman was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday and returned to Houston.

“Initially that’s the kind of timetable that we’re looking at, but obviously, with all of these things we have to be patient,” Click said. “We have to wait for things to calm down there and see how he responds to treatment.”

Bregman suffered the injury running to first base Wednesday at Coors Field and immediately left the game.

Hamstring injuries are nothing new for Bregman. He strained his right hamstring last April and missed two games. In September 2016 -- at the end of his rookie year -- he missed two weeks after straining the same hamstring running the bases.

Bregman is hitting .272 with four homers and 14 RBIs this year and was riding a nine-game hitting streak following his double Wednesday. He has reached base in 40 consecutive games, dating back to last season, which is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues.
