García, Rogers win Rookies of the Month for May
Rangers sensation Adonis García and Marlins breakout left-hander Trevor Rogers are MLB's Rookies of the Month for May.
García was named American League Rookie of the Month, and Rogers the National League Rookie of the Month, on Wednesday.
García burst onto the scene in April with a run of big home runs and highlight-reel defensive plays for the Rangers, and he kept it up in May -- and then some. The 28-year-old outfielder hit 11 home runs during the month to lead the Major Leagues, and he now has 16 on the season, just one shy Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ronald Acuña Jr.'s MLB-leading 17.

García also ranked second in the Majors with 27 RBIs in May, and he hit .312 with a .633 slugging percentage.
Rogers followed up a dominant April with a second straight great month for Miami in May. The 23-year-old went 3-2 with a 2.34 ERA in six starts during the month while striking out 38 batters in 34 2/3 innings.

Rogers has now won back-to-back NL Rookie of the Month honors to open the season after also taking the honors in April, when he went 3-1 with a 1.29 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 28 innings. The last back-to-back Rookie of the Month Award winner was Yordan Alvarez, who won three straight for the Astros in 2019.
"Can I put it like this? Anybody can have a good month. What you want to see out of our guys is the consistency," manager Don Mattingly said. "You've heard me talk about, 'Once you get here, teams are going to make adjustments to you, they're going to game plan for you more and more' -- for hitters and pitchers.
"So the fact that Trevor is starting to get a little name for himself means teams are probably putting more time in on him. What he does, how they want to attack him. You'll see different teams try different things. Tells you a lot about who he is and how he's continuing to improve and evolve along with the game."
García follows Yermín Mercedes of the White Sox as the second AL Rookie of the Month winner of 2021. García is the first Rangers player to be named AL Rookie of the Month since Nomar Mazara in May 2016.
