Cashman's wish: 10 more years of Boone
Security is essential, whether you are rappelling down a 22-story skyscraper or preparing for another season as a big league manager. Aaron Boone did both on Friday morning, hearing that he can count on having a lot more rope in the Yankees' dugout.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman expressed his hope that Boone will serve a decade-long run in the manager's chair, a statement that he previously voiced in September. He said it this time while they were dangling off the Landmark Tower -- Stamford, Conn.'s third tallest structure.
"I've had three managers -- 10 [years] with Joe Torre, 10 with [Joe] Girardi and hopefully 10 more with Boone," Cashman told FOX News' Will Cain during a practice run for the upcoming Heights & Lights festivities.
The first Major League manager to win 100 or more games in each of his first two seasons, Boone has piloted the Yankees to three consecutive postseason appearances since replacing Girardi before the 2018 campaign.
The Yankees have a 236-148 record under Boone, a .615 winning percentage. New York picked up Boone's option for 2021 shortly after its elimination by the Rays in the American League Division Series.
"I love being a part of this organization," Boone said recently. "This is a privilege and an honor and something that I've thoroughly enjoyed. Honestly, I've never worried about my status. Year by year moving forward, I feel like that will all take care of itself."
This year's festivities will be scaled down due to COVID-19 precautions, but Yankees fans can watch Cashman, Santa Claus and The Grinch race down the building as part of Stamford's tree lighting ceremony. It will be aired on the YES Network next Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
"It's a great Christmas show for the kids and the families," Cashman said. "It’s also great bragging rights, because most people have never done this.”
