9 yrs later, A's draft Max Muncy again. Wait ...
No, you didn’t just transport back to 2012. The A’s really did draft Max Muncy again.
Well, not the All-Star first baseman out of Baylor whom they drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 Draft, but a different Max Muncy, this one a shortstop out of Thousand Oaks HS in California taken with the 25th overall pick in 2021. That’s right, Oakland has drafted two players named Max Muncy.
Despite having the same name, Max and Max are not related, although they are more similar than you might think. Dive deeper into the Max Muncy wormhole -- the Muncy-verse, if you will -- and you will find that they both have the same birthday, August 25, 12 years apart. To put a bow on the strange coincidences, Max Muncy (the Dodgers one) hit a walk-off home run on Sunday, hours before his name twin was drafted.

While they have quite a few similarities, Max and Max don't look much alike, so fans should have no problem telling them apart. That's more than you can say for Brady Feigl and Brady Feigl though.
Perhaps Oakland's front office wanted a mulligan on their first attempt at drafting Max Muncy, as they released the elder Muncy in 2017. He then latched on with the Dodgers and his career has taken off with them, becoming a two-time All-Star and a World Series champion in just four seasons. If the younger Muncy has anywhere close to that success, the A’s will be able to rest easy about how the first go-around went.
