Pollock will rejoin Dodgers after the break

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers outfielder AJ Pollock, out since April 28 with a right elbow infection that led to surgery, began a Minor League rehabilitation on Thursday with Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Pollock’s workload will gradually increase during the weekend and through the All-Star break. Pollock then will join the Dodgers in Boston a week from Friday, Roberts said.

Roberts was not ready to declare the next step for shortstop Corey Seager, who has been out since June 12 with a strained left hamstring. On Wednesday, Roberts said it was possible, but unlikely, that Seager could be activated this weekend without playing in Minor League games.

With a huge lead in the National League West, the Dodgers don’t need to rush anybody back. Since Seager was injured, Chris Taylor has inherited the bulk of playing time at shortstop and is hitting .378 during that span. Pollock’s injury essentially resulted in rookie Alex Verdugo becoming the everyday center fielder. Since Pollock’s injury, Verdugo is batting .289.

David Freese, out since June 21 with a left hamstring strain, is expected to be activated Friday or Saturday.
