What better way to open a series than with a no-hitter? That's how Roy Halladay and the Phillies did it against the Reds in Game 1 -- in historic fashion -- and Philadelphia never looked back in the resounding three-game sweep.
Halladay became just the second pitcher in baseball history (Don Larsen in the 1956 World Series) to throw a postseason no-hitter, allowing just one walk and one runner to reach by error in the 4-0 victory that set the tone for the series. Philadelphia won the second game, 7-4, before Cole Hamels was also dominant in a 2-0 complete-game victory in Game 3.
Only seven Reds players registered hits in the _entire series_, and Brandon Phillips (four) and Jay Bruce (two) were the only two with more than one.
Path to the NLDS: Philadelphia (97-65) won the NL East by six games; Cincinnati (91-71) won the NL Central by five games
Managers: Charlie Manuel, PHI; Dusty Baker, CIN
