Charlie Manuel’s powerful nucleus is still there, anchored by such homegrown talent as Carlos Ruiz, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels, Brett Myers and Ryan Madson. Returning are Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, Pedro Feliz, Jamie Moyer, Brad Lidge and Joe Blanton.

The biggest change is in left field, where Pat Burrell departed through free agency and Raul Ibanez arrived via the same route. Then, at the July Trade Deadline, veteran left-hander Cliff Lee is acquired from Cleveland for four young prospects. Other new faces include Chan Ho Park, Scott Eyre and Pedro Martinez.

May 30
Phillies move into first place following a 9-6 win over the Washington Nationals at CBP. They stay on top the rest of the season.

September 30
Phillies beat Houston, 10-3, at CBP to clinch the National League East Division title with four games left in the season. Nine-hit offense includes six extra-base hits. Finish 93-69, six games ahead of Florida. Third straight division title and eighth overall.

October 7
NLDS #1 at Citizens Bank Park: Cliff Lee, in his first postseason appearance, tosses a complete game as the Phillies beat the Rockies, 5-1. Raul Ibanez, also in his first postseason game, drives in two on two hits.

October 8
NLDS #2 at Citizens Bank Park: Rockies build a 4-0 lead after five innings against Cole Hamels and hang on for a 5-4 win to even the Series at 1-1.

October 11
NLDS #3 at Denver: Oct. 10 game postponed by snow and record-low temperatures. Game is rescheduled for this date. Ryan Howard’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning gives the Phillies a 6-5 lead and a 2-1 series edge. Gametime temperature is 35 degrees.

October 12
NLDS #4 at Denver: Ryan Howard hits a two-out, two-run double and Jason Werth follows with a game-winning RBI as the Phillies score three times in the top of the ninth for a 5-4 win that clinches the series against the Rockies, 3-1.

October 15
NLCS #1 at Los Angeles: Carlos Ruiz and Raul Ibanez each hit a three-run homer as the Phillies open with an 8-6 win.

October 16
NLCS #2 at Los Angeles: Pedro Martinez tosses seven shutout innings but the Dodgers come back and edge the Phillies, 2-1, to even the series at 1-1.

October 18
NLCS #3 at Citizens Bank Park: Cliff Lee tosses a three-hitter while Phillies pound 11 hits in an 11-0 romp over the Dodgers to take a 2-1 Series lead. Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino homer.

October 19
NLCS #4 at Citizens Bank Park: Trailing, 4-3, in the bottom of the ninth, Jimmy Rollins delivers a walk-off, two-run double and a 5-4 win over the Dodgers. Phillies lead Series, 3-1.

October 21
NLCS #5 at Citizens Bank Park: Jayson Werth hits two homers and the Phillies polish off the Dodgers, 10-4, to capture their seventh National League pennant and second straight. Ryan Howard, .333, two homers, eight RBIs, is NLCS MVP.

October 28
WS #1 at New York: Chase Utley hits two home runs and Cliff Lee tosses a complete-game, six-hit 6-1 win in the opener.

October 29
WS# 2 at New York: A.J. Burnett and Mariano Rivera combine to beat the Phillies, 3-1, and even the Series at 1-1. Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui hit solo home runs to overtake a Phillies 1-0 second-inning lead.

October 31
WS #3 at Citizens Bank Park: Start of game is delayed by rain for 80 minutes. Yankees and Phillies each hit three home runs but New York emerges the winner in an 8-5 decision and takes a 2-1 series lead.

November 1
WS #4 at Citizens Bank Park: After Pedro Feliz ties the game at 4-4 with a two-run homer in the eighth inning, the Yankees score three two-out runs off Brad Lidge in the ninth for a 7-4 victory. Yankees lead, 3-1.

November 2
WS #5 at Citizens Bank Park: With their backs against the wall, the Phillies turn to Cliff Lee, who beat the Yankees in the opening game. Chase Utley hits two home runs, giving him five and matching the World Series record. Phillies prevail, 8-6, as Ryan Madson records a save.

November 4
WS #6 at Citizens Bank Park: Andy Pettitte shuts down the Phillies offense in a 7-3 win that gives the Yankees the world championship.
