10-impressive-stats-from-the-early-stages-of-the-season
While the Brewers have put together several highlight reel moments on their way to a strong start, some of the most notable feats aren’t visible to the eye.
Whether it’s lightning-quick rookies, a powerful infield duo or an impressive , the Crew has compiled several noteworthy stats through nearly 40 games.
Here’s a look at 10 stats that jump off the page.
Brian Anderson’s Arm Strength
Playing both third base and right field, Brian Anderson has showed off the strongest arm in baseball this season. Anderson logged the fifth-hardest throw of the past two seasons with a 102-mph laser in Seattle in April, and he currently holds the crown for Statcast’s overall arm strength metric.
Willy Adames’ Barrels
Willy Adames has cemented himself as one of the top power-hitting shortstops in Baseball. After crushing 31 homers a season ago, the slugger leads all National League shortstops with 14 barrels this season. His knack for finding the sweet spot has turned into seven home runs already.
Joey Wiemer’s Outs Above Average
Since taking over center-field duties, Joey Wiemer has put on a show in the field. The speedy rookie has racked up highlight-reel plays in center field like the one below, so it’s no surprise to see Wiemer leads MLB with three outs above average.
Rowdy Tellez’s ISO
Rowdy Tellez brings an intimidating amount of power to the middle of the Brewers lineup, and the numbers back it up. "Big Randy” is top-5 in the National League with a .301 ISO, displaying the pure power that makes him so dangerous.
William Contreras’ Blocks Above Average
During his short time in Milwaukee, Contreras has blossomed into one of the best defensive catchers in all of baseball. With an MLB-leading six blocks above average, he’s turned into a pitcher's best friend behind the plate.
Brice Turang’s Sprint Speed
The Brewers “freshmen” can fly, and Brice Turang’s wheels have been a huge boost to the right side of the infield and on the basepaths. Turang is one of the fastest middle infielders in baseball, recording a sprint speed of 29ft/s – top-3 among second basemen.
Joel Payamps’ Hard-Hit Percentage
Payamps has been one of the standouts of a strong Brewers ’pen through the early stages of the season. Surrendering a hard-hit rate of just 27.5 percent, Payamps his limited opponents exit velocity to an average of only 83 mph.
Freddy Peralta’s Fastball
He’s known as “Fastball Freddy” for a reason. The 2021 All-Star’s dominating four-seamer has accounted for a run value of negative six, which is tied for fourth among all pitchers.
Christian Yelich’s Hard-Hit Rate
No one on the Crew has hit the ball hard as often as Christian Yelich. At 56.4 percent, Yelich’s hard-hit rate is currently a career-high and ranks in MLB’s 97th percentile. While it hasn’t led to All-Star level numbers, the evidence suggests that Yelich may be the victim of some bad luck.
Brewers Bullpen Stranding Runners
Through nearly 40 games, the Brewers bullpen has been among the best in the league at leaving opposing runners stranded. Only 24 percent of inherited runners have crossed the plate, fifth best in all of MLB.
